Thrifty has branches all over the country near the majority of the large international airports in the United Kingdom. With Birmingham Airport being such a major destination for international travellers it’s not surprise that they have a branch nearby to this one – in fact they have two branches nearby and the closest one is the one located off Duddleston Mill Road, known as the Birmingham City branch of Thrifty. The branch is open 8.30am until 5.30pm Monday to Friday and 8.30am to 12.30 on a Saturday; it is closed on Sundays.

There is a fairly wide range of cars to choose from at this Thrifty branch, starting off in the ‘economy’ class there is a Ford Fiesta 3 door, a Ford Fiesta 5 door in the ‘compact’ class, a Vauxhall Astra in the ‘intermediate’ class, a VW Gold in the ‘standard’ class and finally a VW Passat in the ‘full size’ class. All the prices here are competitive with other car hires in the area and the company may even be able to offer you a shuttle service from Birmingham Airport to the car hire depot to help you with your journey – ringing the branch in advance in necessary to check this is available when you are travelling.

Avis is one of the six car rental companies located at Birmingham Airport. Avis at Birmingham Airport is managed by Marcus Potts, operates from 6:00 AM to 11:00 PM, seven days a week. When you rent a car from Avis, they also give you the option to rent a Tom Tom GPS, which will ensure you can get wherever you want to go without getting lost.

Making an Avis car rental reservation online is an easy process. Begin by visiting Avis.com. Enter the date and time for your pick-up and return. Next, type “Birmingham, UK Birmingham International Airport GB -(BHX)” into the “Pick-up” box. Finally, if any of the “Optional Information” (Wizard Number or AWD Number) applies to you, enter yours into the appropriate boxes. Otherwise, simply click the red “Continue” button.

As you will see when you conduct your own search, the rates offered by Avis are normally quite reasonable. For example, if I pick-up a small, manual Avis rental car on Monday, 11/15 and return it on Thursday, 11/18, the base rate for my rental is $77.99 USD. With taxes and surcharges, the total is brought to $129.31. If I want to rent a Tom Tom GPS, this will add an additional $17.33 per day to my total. Other available options are Collision Damage Waiver, Personal Accident Insurance, Liability Insurance and Theft Protection. Each of these extras costs between $1.35 and $6.50 per day
