It was so exciting last week when I went to Birmingham airport arrivals. I was meeting my Aunt who had flown from abroad and I had not seen her for years. She had my cousins with her as well, who I have never met before so it was fantastic. The flight was delayed and so I ended up hanging around for ages which was really annoying. I was excited enough when I got there but two hours later I was still there waiting and my stomach was in knots. I just could not wait to give them all big hugs and to say hello in person to my young cousins for the first time ever.
I didn’t dare leave the arrivals area because I would have been very upset had I missed them because I was wandering off somewhere or got lost or something and so it was pretty boring. I ended up talking to a few people who were also waiting around because their hire car was not ready. They were a nice family and chatting to them did pass the time but it still felt like I was waiting for days rather than hours for them to arrive. I wished that I had taken a book or magazine, but when I checked the arrival times on leaving the house there was not a significant delay, I think there was a problem when they got to Birmingham and they were forced to circle for a while to wait for a runway.

The one thing that puts many people off parking at the airport is the thought of having to take out a second mortgage to be able to afford it. The general view is that the car parks close to airports are deliberately expensive because they want to cash in on the people flying out in need of somewhere to store the car. However, this is no longer the case as companies have realised that people have started to get around paying more to park by getting dropped off at the terminal by a friend or relative – the result being that the money has stopped flowing to the car park companies. However, at Birmingham Airport concerted efforts are being made to ensure that people trust the car parks again and choose to take the more convenient option of leaving their car in the car park.
We all know that it makes the trip home so much easier; the last thing you want to do when you arrive back at the airport is have to stand around waiting for your lift to arrive. With the cost of the car park now much lower, there really is no reason to decide against parking your car for the duration with your trip. If you book early enough, online, you can park for as little as £3 per day – that’s less than the majority of car parks throughout the country. If you don’t take advantage of such an offer then the only person losing out is you!
